Gotham Wellness SoHo is an acupuncture studio in New York City, designed to create an experience that is stimulating from a visual, physical, and olfactory perspective.

The program features two treatment rooms with a tactile entry lobby in between. Lined in custom stacked wood, the lobby includes a seating and display area for saleable products. There is a pocket door of stacked gypsum board, resembling the contours and textures of carved stone, which separates the lobby from the ethereal north treatment room.

White sheer curtains surround the entire treatment room, including the windows, resulting in an interplay of light from behind and in front of the curtains. Custom millwork serves as storage, while a seam in the curtains allows access to a fur-lined changing room with mirrors for clients to retreat to.

On the opposite end of the space, the south treatment room is lined in vertical felt to create acoustic and environmental softness. The room is separated from the lobby with a large, 12′ x 8′ pivoting wall-door, designed with integral storage that can be accessed from either side. When open, the lobby and south treatment room function as a larger place for receptions and gatherings, and when closed, the rooms create distinct programs for a more intimate client experience.
